Having a Moral Compass and Integrity

Do you maintain your integrity in the midst of challenging times?

Reputation is how others see you, while character is what God knows you truly are. Job displayed both integrity and character. When his life fell apart, he experienced a range of strong emotions, including fear, frustration, anger, bitterness, confusion, and bewilderment. Meanwhile, a conflict unfolded between God and Satan, with Job at the center. God wanted Satan to witness His loyal servant and to understand what it means to be blameless and upright—someone who remains true to their integrity. Job's remarkable character during this difficult time was so impressive that even his wife found it hard to believe (Job 2:9).
Job 2:9 His wife said to him, “Are you still maintaining your integrity? Curse God and die!”

What is integrity:

Integrity means acting the same way in private as you would in public. It involves being true to your word and fulfilling your commitments, even when no one is watching. Integrity reflects a consistent character, free from hidden agendas or ulterior motives.
It compels you to tell the truth, even when it's tempting to stretch the truth. It encourages you to inform the cashier if you've received too much change, to return a lost wallet without first sifting through its contents, and to drive just below the speed limit rather than exceed it. Integrity drives you to stand up for what is right, even if it means standing alone.

How much money would someone have to offer you for you to lie or distort the truth?
How long would you tolerate watching a sexually suggestive TV program before you decided to change the channel?
How much extra money would a cashier need to mistakenly give you before you felt compelled to point out the error and return the money?
How bad would your circumstances have to be before you felt tempted to curse God?

When we understand that God is in control of all creation, we can better align our moral compass with His truth. Proverbs 11:3 says, “The integrity of the upright guides them, but the perversity of the faithless destroys them.”

Embracing integrity enables us to follow God, our ultimate guide. He exemplifies integrity and motivates us to live by it.
